Ladies and Gentlemen:
To comply with the Montana Environmental Policy Act, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) prepared a draft environmental assessment (Draft EA) regarding the construction of a landfill seven miles north of Billings, Montana. [Please note that this landfill location is approximately 3 miles north of a subdivision that includes around 200 households, not counting the households surrounding the areas that are even closer to the landfill site; and it is also 6 miles from the Independent and Shepherd Schools.]
The purpose of the Draft EA is to inform the public of the proposed action and to seek participation in the decision-making process. The Draft EA is posted on DEQ’s website at:
DEQ will host a public meeting on November 21, 2023, with a brief open house followed by a presentation on the project with time for questions at the end.
